TEACHING AND RESEARCH NEXUS
" Secured well over $2.0 m in research grants and consulting activities.
" Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research projects regularly.
" Published widely with more than 130 publications and organised a total of seven conferences and eight seminars. Taught both mining and civil engineering subjects and currently teaching almost 50 % of the mining engineering course.
" Keeping close association with the industry and research organisations. This has been vital in maintaining strong research base, which is recognised both nationally and internationally.
" Currently setting up a research laboratory for mine gas and outburst control. This is fully funded by the BHPBilltion-Illawarra Coal Holdings Pty Ltd, and is in line with the University of Wollongong Innovative Campus development strategy in establishing long term links between the industry and the University. The University of Wollongong is now the only university in Australia with unique facilities for mine gas research. Currently seven persons are engaged in this research programme.
" Contributed significantly in maintaining successfully the mining engineering programme viable through rational course organisation, seeking industry support as well as exposure of our students to the industry through regular field trips to various mines. The industry has recognised our mining graduate attributes of well trained individuals and consistently provides stable employment.
