Dr. Ginu Rajan is a Vice-Chancellor's Research Fellow at the University of Wollongong Australia. He is also a visiting research fellow at UNSW. He received his B.Sc. degree in Physics from University of Kerala and M.Sc. degree in Applied Physics from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, India, in 2000 and 2002 respectively. He worked as a Researcher at Indian Institute of Astrophysics during the period 2003- 2005. He subsequently undertook research in the area of optical fibre sensors in which he gained a PhD degree from Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), Ireland in 2009.

During 2012-2014, Dr. Rajan was with UNSW Australia as a VC research Fellow/Lecturer and during 2009-2012 he worked as a Project Manager/Research Associate at the Photonics Research Centre of DIT in collaboration with the Warsaw University of Technology, Poland. He also worked as a Lecturer at DIT during the same period of time.

He has published over 100 articles in journals, conferences and as book chapters and one patent is also granted. He is also the editor of the book "Optical Fiber Sensors: Advanced Techniques and Applications" published in 2015 by CRC press and "Structural Health Monitoring of Composite Structures using Fiber Optic Methods" to be published in 2016. He is also an editorial board member of the journal, the world scientific journal.

He has also given invited talks at conferences and is a technical programme committee member of several conferences in smart structures and photonics area. He is currently a reviewer for more than 20 scientific journals and also a reviewer for grant applications of the Portugal Science Foundation and Australian Research Council. He was also the local coordinator of the $1.2 million Erasmus Mundus programme "PANTHER" a collaborative network of three Aus-Nz universities and five European universities at UNSW during 2014-2015. Dr. Rajan is currently supervising three PhD students and also has supervised five masters to completion on their dissertation during the last few years.

Research Interests:

Optical fibre sensors and its applications in smart structures, FBG sensors and interrogation systems, Photonic crystal fibre sensors, polymer fibre sensors, Biomedical applications of fibre sensors and physics of photonic devices
