Current Positions:

Professor in the School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics.

I was born in London, UK, and went to the University of Warwick where I did a BA, an MSc and a PhD in mathematics. I came to Australia in 1991 and worked at UNSW before going to the University of Newcastle in 1992. I was appointed an Associate Professor in Wollongong in 2007 and promoted to Professor in 2010.

Research Interests:

- Operator algebras, particularly C*-algebras associated to groups and group actions.
- Topological groups, including Kac-Moody groups.
- Hecke algebras, including their C*-completions.

Professional Activities:

- Work for the Australian Research Council
- Professional Development of Teachers.
- Mathematics outreach including radio talkback, workshops, and working with the Australian Mathematics Trust.
- Work with the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute.

- BH Neumann Pize for the most outstanding talk presented by a student at the 43rd Annual Meeting of the Australian Mathematical Society in 1992.
- BH Neumann Award for my significant contribution to the enrichment of mathematical learning in Australia from the Australian Mathematics Trust

Future Research Topics:
